I was confused in Retail Closing Lists, but the number in front of store name is the number of branch closing.
I am surprised that none of Gamestop is closing though hundreds of Blockbusters, Hollywood Videos and Movie galleries are closing. Regardless of lists, I hardly see any Gamestop is closing.
I think the top secret is trading system and small retail size of Gamestop. Gamestop never rent huge space like Blockbuster since I believe high rent is the biggest problem.

There was a Gamestop that closed recently near the intersection of Algonquin & Golf Road. It was the one in the plaza right by Meijer (along with Chase bank, Meijer gas station, Chipotle). There is another Gamestop less than a block away in the plaza by Sushi Station as well. Apparently, the rent for the Meijer location was $1,000 more a month according to what I was told. Even still, I did not understand why they needed two locations right by each other.
Also, the rental video stores are suffering because of things like Netflix and Redbox (for whom I work/was working until I get laid off in June). Blockbuster have started their own DVD rental kiosk service as well. It is a very effective business strategy. I wonder how much the store/locations gets for providing the space to store the kiosk though.
Thank you very much for info, Hibiki. I didn't know that one has been closed.
Still, that's not exactly real "closing" since those are extremely near (0.1 mile) because of EB games merge years ago. The one with Sushi station was EB Games. I think their lease is just over.
I didn't know that you worked for red box. The problem of red box is narrow selection in my opinion. I wonder how they survive for $1 including credit card transaction fee.
Personally, me and my wife don't have cable at home and have netflix one-movie option.($8.99/month) Selection is much broad with Korean movies. Nobody want to wait for 3 days, but it will work just fine for people having jobs.
I think the major reason for video industry is down loading. Still, some people don't download like us, so I wonder where people can rent any more.(Blockbuster will be totally gone by 2012.)
